Previously this blog had a news section before but there are not many truly interesting things happening in the industry every day.

Plus your respected chef (me!) had a full-time daytime job and it is hard to keep up with the news all the time. So I decided to make more of these short notes about stuff that made me excited the most. Here goes our first weekly digest.

I tried Six Different Vegan Yogurts So You Don’t Have To

I recently got my DNA test return. I was excited to learn my roots since I am kinda dark for a typical Russian – dark skin complexion, brown eyes, and hair. People always mistake me for a Spanish-speaking person especially when I travel.

The result came back…I am 95% Eastern European (welp, what a waste of time!) but what really got my attention is the health report.

According to it, I am most likely to be lactose intolerant in the future. Even though I didn’t have any problems with cow milk, cannot live without cheese and in love, with whole milk yogurt, I had to face the truth and start preparing for the dark days.

I started off with trying yogurts – my all time favorite food made from cow milk.

I went to Whole Foods and got literary every single vegan yogurt that was in the fridge. To make my comparison report easier all yogurts had the same flavor – strawberry.

Happy Sunday football everyone!

Since the start of NFL season, I have to host hangouts, make breakfast, think through the menu and make sure my friends are happy, full and have a drink in their hands at any time.

This year I joined a fantasy football league which warmed up my interest in NFL to the max. Today I have a great idea for easy and tasty breakfast burritos.

Farro Porridge With Figs, Cinnamon and Walnuts

I had quite on and off relationships with breakfast until I moved to California.

Three years ago my husband and I realized that there is not much going on in our lives and we decided to move to San Francisco. All of the sudden I had tons of quality ingredients in front of me, in any time of the day in any place I go, so I started experimenting with the first meals of the day.

Farro is an ingredient that’s widely used in Russia. Even though I did not grow up eating it I love the taste and the smell somehow bounces me back to good old days.

This porridge is specifically good if you are training for the marathon or half marathon.

The Site Got a Makeover!

Hello food lovers and creative recipe seekers! Cookalongblog has been vacating all summer, getting more ideas and content.

I (Tania) created this blog a little over a year ago to store all food stories from my travels, kitchen lifehacks from my culinary past and recipes that I create while making family dinners.

I did not expect people to notice me but the numbers kept growing! Over 3,000 people looked at the website! some of the left comments and dropped me heartwarming emails about how well I am doing. I started to cram out 3-5 hours a week from my full-time job to dedicate myself to the blog.

After three months of thorough editing and curating the lists, Cookalongblog is back with a makeover!

Now instead of quite unclear categories like “Antipasti, Entrees and Sweet” you got “Vegetarian, Pescetarian, Baking, and Bird”. Apparently, I mostly cook vegetarian and pescetarian and sometimes birds (only on holidays though!).

I also included every recipe with nutritional value and serving size for you athletes, runners, and people who watch their calorie intake.

The design is more simple and accessible now.

Light, Easy and Delish Strawberry Salad

After a long trip to the motherland, tons of pelmeni, vodka, and other unhealthy stuff I am back to the blog.

The main thing I do after coming back from long gastro trips is – detox. I put aside alcoholic beverages, meats, fried food and only leave what’s good.

Last night a realized that I will only eat something that contains strawberries until the end of the summer (probably will for a week and then drop :D).

This salad popped in my mind out of random when I smelled fresh strawberries at the farmers market. There was no better meal that day!

Huevos Rancheros

Since moving to California in 2015 I instantly got into Mexican cuisine and got quite a number of friends with Mexican heritage but for some reason, I have not cooked any of their dishes until mid-2017.

Huevos Rancheros (or rancher’s eggs) is a traditional midday or late morning dish in Mexico cooked in rural areas of Mexico. Recipes may vary to satisfy family’s taste buds and preferences but one thing I can tell for sure: it always has fresh eggs, corn tortillas, and tomatoes.
